The City of Surrey says it needs help from residents watering tens of thousands of trees this summer.
The city says in a statement that staff are focused on watering newly planted trees, but older trees along Surrey streets - 86 thousand in total - also need watering during the warm weather.
It says trees need to be watered slowly at their base at least twice a week to stay healthy and its encouraging the use of so-called drip-line hoses or buckets with drilled holes in the bottom.
The city says it is offering free buckets with pre-drilled holes to interested residents.
It said the Treasury Board Secretariat found the commission breached the "no discrimination" clause in its collective agreement, and has invited parties to engage in a mediation process to seek a meaningful resolution.
