WestJet flight from Toronto has rough landing

WestJet says a flight travelling from Toronto had a rough landing at an airport on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten yesterday afternoon.

The airline issued a statement on its website, saying flight WS2276 from Toronto experienced a hard landing upon arrival at Princess Juliana International Airport at around 1 p.m. ET.

It said foam was deployed as a precaution and the plane's slides were activated, with all passengers and crew safely evacuated and taken to the terminal.

The airport's operating company released its own statement regarding the incident. It said there were 164 people on board the WestJet Boeing 737-800, and three of them were taken for medical assessment.

WestJet said in its statement that it's still awaiting confirmation of what happened to the plane, noting its teams are focused on supporting its guests and crew.

Police in Metro Vancouver say three people have been charged after a multi-year investigation into an alleged drug trafficking operation in Richmond. R-C-M-P say the probe began in November 2021, and searches at multiple properties in that city, as well as Vancouver, turned up some 15-hundred tablets of alleged M-D-M-A as well as 3.6 kilograms of methamphetamine.

A government-funded report says Black executives within the public service are subjected to harassment and intimidation, career stagnation, unjust workloads and, as one executive wrote, a "cesspool of racism." 2 dozen tires slashed in Nanaimo

A man has been arrested in connection to dozens of tires being slashed overnight in two Nanaimo parking lots. R-C-M-P say officers located 20 vehicles with their tires slashed in a parking lot in the 200 block of Franklyn Street, while another three vehicles with slashed tires were found a short time later in the 300 block of Selby Street.
