Wind and snowfall warnings have been posted for a large section of B.C.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for parts of the southern Interior and northern and central B.C., with accumulations of up to 25 centimetres expected in some areas by Tuesday.

Wind warnings have been issued for Vancouver Island, the Fraser Valley, Howe Sound, Metro Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast and the Southern Gulf Islands.

The weather agency says a rapidly deepening area of low pressure will create gusty winds on Tuesday, reaching 90 kilometres per hour in some areas, including the Fraser Valley and Victoria.

It says the strong southeasterly winds are coming in advance of a cold front and will ease by Tuesday afternoon.

Several special weather statements have also been posted warning of a brief period of heavy snow that could make driving dangerous.
