Experience Secret Supper Soiree at Dine Out Vancouver Festival

Petrina D'Souza, 21 Jan, 2020 07:51 PM

Every year, Dine Out Vancouver Festival’s Secret Supper Soiree is a sold-out event. No hints needed to answer why: being taken to a secret location to enjoy a special meal is just an opportunity one does not want to miss. Swallow Tail Culinary Adventures takes this Vancouver culinary road trip to greater heights every year.

At Secret Supper Soiree, you hop on board your private classic Vancouver trolley and are whisked off to secret historical locations around the city for a roaming dinner, beer tasting, and much more fun. This tour is the best way to explore the city’s culinary secrets and tantalize your taste buds. Besides trying out a secret menu while gallivanting around town, you learn a bit about Vancouver’s history and are encouraged to dress in historic attire. This year’s theme is the 1930’s, the birth year of Tiki culture. Attendees dressed up in their Hawaiian shirts and dresses, and floral accessories, and learnt some interesating tidbits about Ernest Gantt aka Donn Beach (who started the tiki culture).

Attendees tasted a delectable menu created by Chef Bruno Feldeisen, a James Beard award winning chef and judge on TV’s The Great Canadian Bake Off. The first location was a sweet little brewery where we sampled a warm, soul-satisfying Butternut Squash Soup that was as tasty as it was appetizing to look at. What followed was the main course: organic chicken paired with a variety of fresh ingredients, which infused together formed a unique and favourable meal. This delicious food was accompanied by a beer tasting of four different ales. We also were a lucky bunch that visited a surprise location that is usually off-limits after visiting hours. It was indeed a sweet experience paired with an interesting Mai Tai and canapés. The night ended with a free swing dance lesson, fun music and lots of dancing.

Pan-fry the marinated paneer slices on a grill pan or a non-stick pan till golden brown marks appear. Do not over cook and harden the paneer. Heat the sauce. Place most of the tomato sauce in an oven-proof flat dish or platter. Arrange steaks. Sprinkle the remaining sauce on the steaks. Sprinkle topping mixture.
