2026 Nissan Armada NISMO - Emphasizing the Sport in SUV

For the auto-enthusiast-turned-parent, or just people who like big, fast utility vehicles, Nissan has answered the call with the first-ever NISMO version of the Armada.

Engineered by the brand’s in-house tuning division (portmanteau of NISsan MOtorsport), this unique project is more than just an appearance upgrade, though the styling is definitely a talking point.

The exterior is significantly different compared to the regular variant of the flagship SUV, boasting an elongated gloss-black grille, blockier bumpers, lower body aero with a splitter on the front and diffuser on the back, bigger roof spoiler, and hits of red and black all around. There are also LED fog lights and red-painted brake calipers. In addition, the standard fender flares, exclusive black 22-inch forged-aluminum wheels wrapped in performance all-season tires, and adaptive electronic air suspension give this Armada a custom, slammed truck look.

Unique to the model are two special paint colors: Black Diamond Pearl and Stealth Gray (with or without a two-tone Super Black roof), the latter found on DARPAN’s press tester. Everest White Pearl Tricoat (optional Super Black roof) is offered as well.

Similarly, the three-row interior aesthetic is performance-oriented with a charcoal upholstery theme, red contrast stitching, and NISMO embroidery. The red quilted suede inserts on the backrest of every seat are stunning, and the front pair feature adjustable seat bolsters to hold occupants in tightly. Aluminum pedals and multicolored ambient lighting complete the package.

Through a little software and hardware engineering wizardry, designers have managed to squeeze an additional 35 horses (for a total of 460) from the already impressive 425-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, normally found in the other Armadas.

The rear-biased 4WD system is a hoot to drive and will get a tad tail-happy in the corners if you put the hammer down, and despite being a 6,100-pound beast, the sport-tuned suspension and electric power steering give the vehicle a sharper-than-usual handling feel. Paddle shifters add to the tactile experience. The retuned exhaust sounds throaty, and the turbo spool-up whine is seriously audible, magnified by the Active Sound Enhancement piping acceleration noise into the cabin via the Klipsch premium stereo speakers.

If appearing as though you’re fresh off the track while hauling some recreational gear to the cabin on the weekend is your thing, it has the same 8,500-pound towing capacity as the rest of the lineup. Invisible Hood View utilizes the multiple onboard cameras to create an image of the ground beneath the engine bay to help avoid obstacles when on rugged terrain, or curbs when parking. Panoramic Front Wide View and the 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor, affording a birds-eye perspective of the SUV, provide extra assistance.

For those wanting to do more serious off-roading, take a look at the other new Armada model, the PRO-4X, bundling all-terrain tires, a rugged front bumper, increased approach angle, underbody skid plates, and electronic locking differential.
