Cyclospora Outbreak in BC

Health officials are warning about a parasite found in fruits and vegetables that can cause diarrhea, cramps, vomiting and fever.

The B-C Centre for Disease Control says there have been a record high 43 cases of cyclospora infections in the province this year.

The illness is from a parasite not found in Canada but the centre says infections are linked to eating contaminated, imported raw produce, especially leafy greens, fresh herbs and berries.

It's reminding people that fruits and vegetables -- especially those imported from tropical and subtropical regions -- should be cooked, or carefully washed, if eaten raw.

Investigators have not confirmed whether the group is the same one that allegedly stabbed a homeless man who later died in hospital – those teens congregated after meeting on social media.

3 Surrey homicide victims identified

On January 9, 2023, shortly after noon, Surrey RCMP attended a residence in the 15600-block of 112 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered three deceased adults inside the home. The IHIT says the bodies of 56-year-old Xiao Yan Zhen, 58 year-old Li Li and their 24-year-old son, Daniel Li, were in the home.
