Fire Guts String Of Stores Along Vancouver Street

    VANCOUVER — Several businesses in Vancouver's Kerrisdale neighbourhood were destroyed by a fire late Thursday.
     
     
    The fire broke out at about 8 p.m. in a string of one-storey businesses that include a tailor, hair studio, pizza shop, an ice cream store and a Salvation Army thrift store. (at West 41st and Maple).
     
     
    No injuries have been reported from the blaze, which sent thick black smoke drifting over Metro Vancouver.
     
     
    At least 50 firefighters were still battling the fire hours later and were expected to be on scene through the early morning hours.
     
     
    There was no immediate word on what may have caused the fire.
