Seventeen Schools In Cape Breton Facing Closure By 2021: School Board

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 13 Apr, 2016 01:34 PM
SYDNEY, N.S. — A school board in Cape Breton has voted to close 17 schools over the next five years.

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board presented the closure list Tuesday after spending months reviewing schools in the region.

The board says some of the schools will shut down this September, with others being shuttered in 2021.

Affected students will move to other schools in most cases.

A French immersion program at Whitney Pier Memorial Middle School will be moved to a reconfigured Brookland Middle School in 2020.

The board also passed motions to ask the Education Department for a couple of new schools.
