Darpan Beauty: Sizzlin’ Summer

  • Darpan Beauty: Sizzlin’ Summer
Summer is here, everyone is happy and we’re jumping with glee! However, our skin might have another opinion. Skin changes from season to season, so ideally you’d want to change your makeup and skin regime as well. Heat and humidity can have a huge impact on how your makeup reacts to your skin.

We need to also consider taking some precautions to protect our skin from the blazing sun. Over exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles, sun spots, skin cancer and even cause eye damage. With so many products out in the market, it can be overwhelming to choose a few good ones that work for your skin type and for the summer season.

We often buy products and expect it to do certain things but soon realize that it’s not working the way we want or the colour is totally wrong, therefore creating a negative image in our minds about the product or the brand. Most of these products are tailored to certain skin types. Knowing what your skin type is: normal, dry, oily, sensitive or combination, will help you choose the right products and eliminate the frustration.

I’m always on a mission to find “worthy” beauty products that work well and do what they say. From the range of products I discovered and tried, here are my top six for the summer season.

Laura Mercier SPF 20
This is an award-winning, lightweight formula that moisturizes the skin. It helps even out the skin tone and provides a natural, dewy finish. The SPF 20 is a huge bonus and its non-greasy making it great for hot and humid weather. The thing I love most about this product is the long wear.

Available at Sephora stores across Canada

Make Up For Ever HD Primer
This primer can actually be worn all year round but I choose it for summer because of its lightweight and oil free texture. It hydrates the skin making lines less obvious and pores a lot tighter creating a smooth surface for foundation to be applied on effortlessly. I highly recommend pairing the HD Primer with Make Up For Ever’s Face & Body Liquid Makeup, which is also lightweight, easy to work with and is formulated for both the face and body. As a result, you will achieve a healthy glow and a beautiful, flawless finish.

Benetint by Benefit
Benetint is a cheek and lip tint. It keeps thing natural looking but adds some colour to the canvas. It’s sheer and long lasting, so no need to keep reapplying. I like adding a little lip gloss for a little shimmer.

Available at Sephora stores across Canada

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Rightfully so, this product has won many beauty awards and has been featured in numerous publications. It’s an ultra sheer, nude based formula that enhances the colour of your eye shadow while lasting all day and night – you’ll never get creases. Heat and humidity can ruin a perfect made-up eye but not if you put this potion on first.

Available at Sephora stores across Canada

Loreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara
After trying over two dozen mascaras, Loreal’s Voluminous Mascara was crowned the winner! It offers great volume, no clumping and it’s very affordable. You can take a dip in the pool and not worry about any smudging. I don’t recommend wearing the waterproof mascara all the time because it tends to dry out your lashes but for the summer season it’s perfect.

Available at most retailers, including London Drugs, Shoppers Drug Mart and Walmart
