Rocking It With Summer Style

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 08 Feb, 2014 04:24 AM
Summer is almost here and many of you might be racking your brain as to what to wear this summer. Wipe that sweat off your face, take a deep breath and relax, we have you covered.

This particular fashion faux pas has reinvented itself and is now called the “belt purse”. It’s out with the clutch and in with the fanny. This accessory has moved several inches above the waist for a more elegant look. Also stick with leather belt purses which can be fashioned with any outfit- keep it tasteful. You can also wear a small leather belt purse with a long flowing dress- giving it a casual summer feel. Or you could try it with tailored pants for a more sophisticated ensemble. Have with it.

Remember its summer- fun, airy, sassy. Wear it with confidence and rock it with style. All eyes will be on you. The tail hem continues to make a debut; whether it’s a maxi dress (such as the one Carrie Bradshaw A.K.A. Sarah Jessica Parker rocks on Sex and the City 2) or a cute mini dress. The tail hem allows you to be coy and playful- always keeping a guy on his toes. This is something more for the Audrey Hepburn fans- Silk scarves are the new accessory of 2011.

Deep, sensual shades or big bold designs add that oomph to any outfit. These scarves can be fashioned around the neck; or trailing down for a trendier look. But a classic is a classic: around the head for evening wear. When looking at scarves, nothing beats the vintage Hermes scarf: rich blue colors, royal purples.

For a more casual look you can try the Burberry checked cotton scarf. Burberry seems to be stepping out of its comfort zone and embracing the summer trend by adding pretty pinks, raspberries on sheer white cotton. My personal favourite is a zebra morphed leopard inspired scarf by Jimmy Choo- adding a little spice to any outfit. Oh and guess who’s back?!?!

The fanny pack is making its way down the London and New Year York fashion week. You don’t have to clean your glasses or rub your eyes; yes I did say the fanny pack. 2011 has been largely about female sensuality with a hint of sexy sophistication (summer is not too far behind, but you might want to add sassy to the list). To turn heads this summer, ladies drop those bulky blacks, gloomy greys and embrace the light vibrant fabrics that blow with the wind and brighten the morning. Sheer, lacy fabrics have made their way back into our closets. Summer is all about colors.

Designers have captured the summer breeze in their designs, keeping the fabric light and airy. Summer 2011 is all about the 2 C’s: class and coy. This summer also welcomes the 50’s and 70’s with open arms because fashion is at times all about taking a trip down memory lane. Fashion is trending back towards bell bottoms, crochet tops, and full prom skirts. Every fashion forward woman knows the best outfit is always hidden in her closet- remember ladies to save everything because you never know when it’ll make a comeback. This summer is also about Capri pants as well as cropped pants- very Italian inspired. With your capris this summer, slap on those military style ankle, semi-clog boots and voila.

    Shoe Mania For A Fashionista
2011 is the year to celebrate shoes!

Shoes are my passion – just ask my closet or my mom in that case. Any fashionista knows the vital role shoes play in any diva’s life. Men- take notes, flowers are outdated, shoes are a girl’s best friend, but we still accept diamonds. Spring 2011 continues the emerging trend of clog mania that was started in 2010. Although clogs have not been the most glamorous shoe type in the past, they are a must have for the year 2011.

When you think of clogs, a few words that automatically come to mind are bulky, unappealing, Sweden? (All in all a big “Hell no”) Take a step back because Chanel and Louis Vuitton have something else in store for you. My personal favourite is a pair from Chanel which features calf skin and a dark wooden heel with a studded lining. It’s modern, trendy and an attractive addition to any outfit. Chanel also took inspiration from the classic: lace and a light wooden heel, studded lining and for that extra oomph a gorgeous button lined with gems. Kitten heels have also come out to play. This form of heel has a 50s sophistication and elegance.

Personally, they’re not one of my favourite heels because they do nothing for your legs. I feel short and stumpy (and I’m 5’8”). But never fear, where there is a will there is a way. A kitten heel cannot be worn with anything and everything. A kitten heel is perfectly accompanied by a 50’s fashion: full skirts, skinny leg dress pants. These heels with a pointed toe and neutral tone are perfect for the office, as well as evening wear. If you are looking to wear them during the day in the summer, they are light enough to be worn as sandals with almost any outfit. But always remember to keep it sophisticated and classy.

Louis Vuitton leaped head first into the emerging trends and created a clog version of kitten heels. I love shoes and fashion, but I would not be caught dead in these. I guess you have to draw the line somewhere. The front is wide (reminiscent of what my grandma used to wear- emphasis on the past tense); the small heel does nothing for your legs, making women look stumpy. The leather sashes are the most appealing part of this shoe- sadly. Moving on- guess what ladies?

Wedges are back! But wedges have also jumped on the clog bandwagon. The Mulberry wedges have a clog wedge with a black suede ankle strap. This is very 70’s inspired. Notice again the studded lining; very attractive. Still not convinced by a full on clog? Try the ankle boot with a somewhat clog. The military inspired ankle boot fashions the studded lining with a slight clog heel. Imagine marching the fields wearing these boots. If this is what the military offers- where do I sign up?
