Spring 2014 is the year for colours to take center stage. The season is infamous for showcasing an array of colour palettes, and designers are creating an equilibrium between pastels and vivid colours. Let us introduce your closet to the vibrant, gorgeous colours for the spring season.

The classic black and white made quite an impression on the runway at New York Fashion Week (NYCW). This colour combination is classic and perfectly right for any occasion. A few favourite pieces showcased at NYCW include a black and white blazer paired with a faux leather skirt by Narciso Rodriguez, which was a perfect look for any formal affair, while Jill Stuart introduced a white crop top with intricate detail in black beads on the shoulder and arms in combination with a flowy skirt adding a touch of femininity. It’s clear, you can never go wrong with a classic.

Pastels are the trademark colour of spring. The season is known for an airy fragrant elegance and what captures this better than a variety of pastels. This spring dazzling blue, radiant orchid, freesia, placid blue, sand, violet tulip, cayenne, paloma, hemlock and my personal favourite celosia orange are the “go to” colours for our designers. Pair the cool and neutral shades with warm tones to create true spring perfection.

New York Fashion Week introduced pastels with its own twist. Muted blush, mint, violet and blue made their appea-rance on shimmering satin fabric – meet the spring of the future. A few personal favourites on the runway: Tory Burch’s collection introduced icy pastels giving her pieces a definite edge or Nes Gordon’s long mint dress with a sexy side slit paired with eggshell spring coat. Very chic!

NYFW added a touch of pink to soften the edgy spring looks. This colour is versatile and can be matched with almost any of the colours this season. An all white airy dress paired with a cropped pink jacket makes the outfit look fun and fresh. A shimmery navy blue jumper patterned with pink lets the piece stand out in the crowd. For a casual chic look, add a baby pink blazer to a white knitted sweater with faded jeans. Who said fashion had to be complicated? It’s all
about balance.

Although all the colours mentioned above are the key to the spring wardrobe – there is one colour that definitely takes the cake. The colour of the year is celosia orange! This vibrant and adventurous shade will make any outfit snap, crack and pop. The celosia orange can be used as an accent to enhance your outfit or to add a little play to an otherwise dull look. With orange being the new black, let your imagination run wild.

Spring is the season to experiment with colours. Let your inner child come out and play. Paint your closet with the colours of the spring season!

The Heels are Meant for Walking
Shoes are like men, the cuter they are, the harder they are to resist” – this was written on a coffee mug that my cousin gave to me as a gift for two reasons: 1 – I cannot function without my daily cup of coffee and 2 – I am a shoe addict
